Without the talents and knowledge of our staff, West London Action for Children would not be able to uphold the great reputation it has within the two local boroughs in which we work.
Our professional staff are trained to the highest standard but still retain sincerity and a belief in the people they are helping.
Likewise, the support staff in fundraising and administration are dedicated to moving the charity onwards and upwards.
HEATHER BOXER ~ Chief Executive
With a long term commitment to the aims of West London Action for Children, Heather’s responsibilities include the development of strategy and policy to support the organisation’s charitable objects and mission. She oversees the delivery of services, the professional development of the team, maximises resources and works towards ensuring the needs of vulnerable families are met within a therapeutic setting.
GAZALA ALVI ~ Fundraiser & Finance Officer
Gazala joined the team in November 2013 as the Fundraiser & Finance Officer. In this role Gazala supports the Chief Executive with funding applications and is also hoping to increase revenue through increased use of social media and by supporting various events and new initiatives.
JEN LONG~ Administrator
Jen is often the first point of contact for clients who are put at ease with her respectful and welcoming approach. She provides support to the professional team, fundraisers and trustees, looking after the day to day running of the office.
KANIMOLY MERVIN PRISON ~ Finance Officer
Kani is responsible for the bookkeeping of the organisation, ensuring all donations and expenditure are monitored carefully.
GEORGINA BELL ~ Lead Therapist and Clinical Psychologist
Georgina is trained as a Clinical Psychologist and has been working in the NHS CAMHS services in South West London for over 20 years. She joined WLAC in September 2014 as the lead therapist. She has a particular interest in working with young people and their families with anxiety, depression, self harm and eating disorders. She has considerable experience of working with other services such as schools and social care.
EMMA FLANAGAN ~ Therapist
BA; MSc; DipSW
Emma is a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and works with children, teenagers, and adults individually at WLAC (since 2005). She also works with couples and families. Previously, she was a school counsellor, had a private therapy practice, and worked as a children and families social worker. Her approach is warm and friendly, and she focuses on helping people feel more positive about themselves and their lives. She also works with relieving the impact of past trauma, using a specific therapy technique called EMDR. Emma has worked as a parents’ group facilitator at WLAC and helps parents with parenting issues as they arise.
LANETTE GAYLE – Psychotherapist
BSC (Hons); CPPD.
Lanette has a history of working in schools, as well as adult counselling. She co-facilitates our Mighty Me programme and works with clients of all ages.
JO HERCOCK ~ Therapist
UKCP (Accred); BSc; MA; UKCP
Jo is an Integrative Psychotherapist who provides a safe therapeutic space for clients. She enjoys working in a collaborative relationship with clients to explore and understand the issues and difficulties facing them and help them to make the changes they want in their lives. Jo works with children, young people and adults in individual therapy and facilitating parents’ and children’s groups. She has specialist experience of working with women and children affected by domestic violence.
LOUIS HOOK ~ Therapist
BA (Hons); MSC; MBACP (accred).
Louis is a person centred psychotherapist. He works with young people and adults individually. He has experience working in school and university settings. Aswell as working individually, he also facilitates children’s groups in schools. He has recently pioneered a successful non-directive group for teenagers. Louis is committed to offering a therapy that moves at your own pace, helps you understand yourself, and promotes your freedom and wellbeing.
JULIA HUTCHINSON (AFBPSS) ~ Mindfulness Teacher
Chartered and HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist
Julia enjoys working collaboratively with individuals of all ages, families and groups to enable them to make the changes they want in their lives. She has worked in a variety of roles for WLAC for many years, currently teaching mindfulness programmes to children and young people, as well as facilitating mindfulness groups for parents.
JAYNE KELLY ~ Therapist
BA (Hons); MA
Jayne is an Integrative Psychotherapist who divides her time at West London Action for Chlidren between individual therapy and working in schools. She has a wealth of experience of working in the education system with families and young people, particularly at secondary school level. Adolescence brings a unique set of pressures and challenges to any family. Jayne specialises in working with young people directly to help them understand the strengths they have and how they can use these to build the lives they wish to lead.
YVONNE OSAFO ~ Therapist
Yvonne is a UKCP accredited Parent Infant Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with a focus on early intervention and prevention from pregnancy to age two years. She also works psycho dynamically with young offenders, school refusers and with the family as a unit, including fostering and adopting families. She researched the subject of ‘parent-infant psychotherapy with a child showing early signs of autism’.
VERONICA PRETELT ~ Group Facilitator
Veronica is a qualified counselling psychologist. She trained both in Colombia, her country of origin, and in the USA. In the States, she had the opportunity to work with people from a wide range of cultures, which fulfilled her interest in understanding cultural diversity. At West London Action for Children, she enjoys working in individual and group settings with children, adolescents and adults.
DEBORAH QUY ~ Family Therapist
Bsc Nursing; Counselling Dip; Msc Systemic and Family Psychotherapy; UKCP and MBACP (accred).
Deborah is a systemic and family psychotherapist. She started her professional life as a registered general nurse before moving into counselling and pastoral care and finally into family therapy. She works with children, young people and parents and enjoys working collaboratively with families thinking about how they can take charge of their lives and interact relationally in ways that are empowering and healing.Deborah also enjoys facilitating parenting groups, including those just for Dads.
STEFAN ~ Childcare Assistant
Stefan provides essential childcare support for clients, enabling them to attend their therapy sessions at a time that suits them.
We are governed by a board of multi-skilled individuals, who freely give their time to us on a voluntary basis. We are very grateful to them for their dedication.
