A Room Transformed, A Legacy Honoured
Over the last few months, we set out to transform one of our therapy rooms here at our centre, in memory of Heather Boxer, our much-loved, and dearly missed Chief Executive, who sadly passed away in January this year.
What was once known as the Blue Room, has now become the Heather Room - a revamp of our welcoming and comforting space for clients and families.
Heather was known for her warmth, kindness, compassion, and deep commitment to supporting children and families. Creating a space that reflects those qualities seemed like the perfect way to honour her legacy.
The transformation was a real team effort. Volunteers from GLG generously gave their time, energy, and supplies (on one of the hottest days of the year!) to repaint and refresh the room. One of our wonderful volunteers, Angela, also played a key role, reaching out to Adventures in Furniture and Kim Corbett - the founder and owner – who very generously donated a beautiful ‘Gibson’ sofa, to further complete the room, and add comfort and calm to the space. Their thoughtful contributions have helped to create a room that feels nurturing and inviting for the children, young people, and families who use it every day. We are truly grateful for all of their support, this simply wouldn’t have been possible without each and every one of them!
Already, the Heather Room is making a difference. Families who may be facing difficult circumstances, and living in insecure or difficult housing situations, can step into a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment, where they can feel supported and talk, heal, and grow.
For everyone at WLAC, this transformation is more than a new coat of paint and a sofa. It’s about creating an environment that carries Heather’s spirit, legacy, and commitment forward, and continues to support our community in the way she always did – with compassion, dignity, and hope.
