In the sixth of our weekly Summer Series webinars, Professor Adrian Martineau will be in conversation with Rajan Datar to discuss Old wine in new bottles: rediscovering the importance of vitamin D for human health. Drawing from his research, Adrian will explain how vitamin D has played a key role in immune function for centuries, and examine its potential role in the fight against COVID-19, with a look at the on-going research in this area and some early findings from the COVIDENCE UK study. Adrian’s recent experience with research in this area has focussed on children living in locations throughout the world, including London, Lahore, Cape Town and Ulaanbaatar.
Holding a degree in Epidemiology and Public Health, and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Adrian’s work has taken him around the world. His current primary research interest is in the effects of vitamin D on human health, and in particular its potential role in preventing respiratory infections and non-communicable diseases. Adrian is the Clinical Professor of Respiratory Infection and Immunity at Queen Mary University of London.
Adrian will be in conversation with BBC television journalist and presenter, Rajan Datar.
