Family therapists generally work with groups of people. They see problems as arising in the relationships between people rather than in the individual, and take into account wider contexts such as cultural or religious beliefs or the socio-political issues.
At WLAC, our family therapists work with the group which may consist of parents and children and other members of the extended family. The therapist helps this group to work together to tackle any problems or issues that are affecting the family by exploring each person’s thoughts and feelings, and supports the family in building on their strengths and making changes that will help lessen the problems.
